Custom-built crane booms: an ambitious industrial project by XLG Fleurus
When a critical lifting part has to be replaced, the stakes are high. This is exactly the challenge that XLG Fleurus took up on behalf of Vigan, producing a 22-meter-long custom-built crane jib. It was a complex project that called on the company's cutting-edge skills in industrialwelding and strengthened the collaboration between the two companies.
Why make a custom crane jib?
The boom produced by XLG Fleurus replaced an existing part that had suffered an accident. Vigan, a company specializing in port and industrial equipment, was looking for a welding subcontractorcapable of handling both machining and welding. Accustomed to subcontracting its machined parts to XLG, this time Vigan broadened its scope of work to include the complete manufacture of the boom.
This project thus marked a new stage in the partnership between the two companies, integrating XLG Fleurus' expertise in customwelding : the art of assembling, welding and adjusting new or repair metal parts.

Demanding workshop production
The crane jib was entirely manufactured in the XLG Fleurus workshops, over a period of 8 weeks. A tight deadline, given the technical complexity of the project and the many challenges involved:
- Compliance with specific dimensions, profiles and cross-sections
- Strict compliance with imposed materials
- Precision on critical points such as machined areas used as fastening points
The success of this project is based on meticulous organization: 495 hours of work, 10 people mobilized, and 4 different trades involved. Plotters, fitterswelders and millers worked closely together to guarantee perfect assembly, in line with the customer's expectations.

An ambitious project, a symbol of know-how
"This ambitious project brought together the different areas of expertise at XLG Fleurus," says project manager Sébastien Picrit. "It was a real challenge in terms of quality and deadlines. The customer's regular presence in our workshops helped to establish a climate of trust, after a previous manufacturing experience that had dented their serenity."
Once fabrication was finalized, the custom crane boom was shipped to Montpellier.

Enhanced customer relations
Beyond its technical success, this project illustrates XLG's ability to support its customers in complex industrial projects, from single parts to custom manufacturing. It also marks Vigan's entry into the world of weldingreinforcing a partnership based on reliability, quality and proximity.
