Cleanroom cleaning

A specialized cleaning service for your highest-risk areas

Cleanrooms are among the most demanding environments in the industry. Every particle counts. Every action counts. If contamination is not properly controlled, it can compromise entire production batches, invalidate certifications, or result in liability for the site manager. That is why cleaning a cleanroom cannot be entrusted to just any cleaning service provider.

XLG has been operating in controlled environments for 40 years. Our Soft Facility teams, trained in cleanroom protocols, apply validated work methods that comply with the requirements of ISO 14644 and are tailored to each classification level, from ISO 9 through to the most stringent environments.

Protocols tailored to each ISO class

Not all cleanrooms are created equal. An ISO 8 cleanroom in an analytical laboratory does not require the same methods as an ISO 5 cleanroom in a medical device or semiconductor manufacturing environment. At XLG, every project begins with a detailed analysis of your environment’s classification level, personnel flow, and production constraints.

Our technicians wear protective clothing appropriate for the cleanroom class and use certified equipment and supplies (approved non-woven wipes, HEPA vacuums, and biocidal products or detergents approved in accordance with site requirements). The decontamination protocols are documented and can be provided for your quality audits.

The industries we serve

Cleanroom cleaning applies to a wider range of industries than one might think. XLG supports clients in the following sectors:

In the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requires documented cleaning and disinfection procedures, including method validation and rigorous residue management. Our teams work closely with your quality managers to ensure that cleaning is integrated into your documentation system.

In the medical device industry, the requirements of the European MDR regulation and ISO 13485 standards mandate a level of control over the production environment that leaves no room for improvisation. XLG provides a structured, documented, and auditable solution.

The aerospace and defense industry—whose requirements XLG knows well through its collaborations with contractors such as Safran—uses controlled-contamination work areas for the assembly of critical components. Cleaning is a production operation in these areas, not a peripheral maintenance task.

The semiconductor, precision optics, and high-density electronics industries require ISO 4 to ISO 6 environments where zero tolerance for particles is an operational reality.

Our Cleanroom Procedures

Cleaning in a controlled environment follows a workflow that differs fundamentally from standard industrial cleaning. At XLG, we follow a three-step approach: preparation and donning of protective gear in the entry airlock, cleaning according to a validated plan from the cleanest to the least clean areas (top-down, inside-out principle), and controlled exit with traceability of the cleaning operation.

The products used are selected for their compatibility with the materials in the room, their documented biocidal efficacy, and the fact that they leave no residue after rinsing.

Equipment (carts, mops, brooms) is designated for use in the cleanroom and is not moved between different classification zones. It is cleaned and sterilized periodically, with the frequency specified in the cleaning plan.

Why choose XLG for your cleanroom?

XLG is not a general-purpose service provider that occasionally ventures into cleanroom cleaning. Our Soft Facility division has been structured around critical environments since the group’s inception 40 years ago. This hands-on experience, gained working with demanding industrial clients in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg, has taught us that meticulous record-keeping is just as important as technical rigor.

Our clients can rely on standardized service reports, customizable cleaning plans, and dedicated points of contact who can collaborate with their quality and HSE teams. At XLG, cleanroom cleaning is not a standalone service: it is part of a long-term partnership approach, consistent with our ESG commitments and our goal of doubling in size by 2031.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cleanroom Cleaning
Cleanroom cleaning is a technical operation performed in environments with controlled particle contamination, classified according to the ISO 14644 standard (ISO 1 to ISO 9). It requires validated protocols, certified equipment, and personnel trained in donning and decontamination procedures. A non-specialized service provider risks introducing particles or microbiological contaminants that could compromise the site’s compliance.
Yes. XLG, a Belgian group specializing in industrial facility management, provides cleaning services in controlled environments for industries subject to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), including the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. These services are documented and can be integrated into clients’ quality management systems.
HACCP cleaning is primarily used in the food industry and aims to eliminate biological, chemical, and physical risks related to food safety. Cleanroom cleaning complies with the ISO 14644 standard and focuses on controlling particulate and microbiological contamination in industrial or pharmaceutical production environments. XLG specializes in both approaches through its Soft Facility division.
XLG operates in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. The Walloon-based group, headquartered in Wallonia, has operational teams that can be deployed across all these markets for one-time assignments or recurring cleaning contracts in controlled environments.
To receive a customized quote, we recommend specifying your cleanroom’s ISO classification, the area to be treated, the desired frequency of service, and any constraints related to your operations (production schedules, documentation requirements, authorized products). You can contact XLG directly via the contact form on xlg.eu or by phone through your regional sales representative.
