The process
To rid the surface of any dirt or old coating, it can be stripped using the sandblasting, bead-blasting or air-scrubbing process.

Can an existing lime-based paint be covered with an acrylate-based paint?
No. It is advisable to cover lime paint with a similar lime-based paint system.
Is it possible to paint a postisolated cavity wall?
Yes, if the masonry facing is not overly exposed to weathering and is in good condition, you can use paints that are highly permeable to water vapour.
What requirements must a "ready-to-paint" ceiling meet?
The term "ready-to-paint" is imprecise, as it gives no indication of the desired appearance or of the tolerances of the substrate. In the absence of a precise definition, TIN 249 sets out current requirements according to the nature of the substrate.
Can silicone sealant be painted?
Not necessarily. Not all sealants can ensure minimum adhesion of the paint film. This is particularly true of silicone sealants, bituminous sealants and rubber sealants.
